'"Did you know this man, sergeant?" she asked in a raised voice. " Didi you know this man?" " NO!" said Jesse" But he surely knew me"'(Valdez,85)
the significance that this quote revealed was how Jesse gained respect for a man in so little time. It showed to me that when some one is alone they seek for someone where they can express themselves to them, and console them as well as a place where they can forget about all the negative things that are happening to, and around them. I found that it wasn't easy for Jesse or Hong to leave their loved ones far, and know that life wasn't being promised to them each day that passed by so they panicked but tried to think for the best to come. When Jesse found Hongs' corpse he seemed as he didn't want to believe it was him, but he had to come to reality. His emotions and the statement he made represented the honesty he gave out to Hong, and how he poured out who he was to him. He lost a friend who he met in little time but got to know well. The message it sent out was that having to get to know a person doesn't take long when they come with honesty and are in need of a friend because of loneliness.
Questions
1) What was the rumor of the tournevis with the Quonset and the Intelligence agent? Was it real after all? Why?
2) Why did Jesse seem hurt when he saw the dead corpse of the North Vietnamese solder?
The answer to the second question:
ReplyDeleteI think Jesse seemed hurt when he saw the dead corpse of the North Vietnamese soldier because he had talked to him and he felt bad because of the position he was in.He also told him he wouldnt get shot.Maybe he seemed hurt because his corpse had bullet holes and because he got tortured.
Jesse was hurt when Hong the Vietnamese soilder was dead because of all the suffering he had went through and he was now dead. Jesse was also hurt because it was recent when they began talking they weren't the bestest friends however, they did become good ones and Jesse didn't not want to see Hong in that position.
